I believe that we create, practice, and play music for the benefit of music and humanity as a whole.  To help ourselves, each other, and everyone that surrounds us by nourishing and replenishing ourselves with the creativity, healing, and awareness that our world needs.  To help us feel and help us think. I write and play my music for this reason so that I can express myself and that it can inspire emotion and awareness.

The music I write and play is influenced by the foundations of what influenced me to start playing music and the guitar that still greatly affects the music that I listen to and practice now.  Always admiring the guitar and music, I first picked up this beautiful instrument at the age of 12 and it was love at first sound.  Playing in rock bands and jazz combos all throughout high school I was influenced greatly by rock, funk, hip-hop, and jazz including artists from Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles to Miles Davis and James Brown to The Roots, who all still deeply influence the music I make to this day.

The music that I create and play is also heavily influenced by the more recent experiences that I’ve had beginning my musical college experience.  Throughout college I learned about music in ways that I had never thought before like the aspects of theory, therapy, history, ethnography, business, and recording.  All these experiences have further inspired why I make music and why music is important to society and humanity, which makes the artist a very important existence in the world.  I’ve learned also music to me is more than just the notes and sounds that it provides, but the awareness, education, and healing that it provides.  When I first began my college experience I began studying music therapy.  While only taking a year and a couple of classes at Arizona State pertaining to music therapy, I was deeply inspired by the healing aspects of what music can do, which still greatly inspires the music that I create.  It has also inspired the correlations I discovered in yoga/meditation and music that inspires my work day to day.  Another important influence on the music that I create is the experiences that I’ve been through at Columbia College Chicago, not only through the classes, but through the network of artist and musicians.  Going through the Contemporary, Urban, and Pop program at Columbia has inspired the music that I make and has also shown me the many other aspects of music and the music business.  It has shown me the many aspects of performance, writing songs and working with other musicians, recording, and the overall professionalism that a working musician should have especially in the modern industry that we live in today.  What has inspired me also is the study of all the classical and jazz theories combined with the study of more modern artist even within the current industry of today.  It has inspired my writing because it shows me the inspiration that I can draw from musicians from all different eras, past and current.  Throughout this program I have also been inspired by the technology and recording experience that I’ve gone through, which greatly inspires the music I make because it shows the different ways where I can present my compositions.

Throughout my undergraduate study all these different experiences of music I’ve developed my writing and performance in many different ways.  I am more aware of the importance to the showcase and production of performance inspired by the ensembles I’ve experienced.  Before my undergraduate study I would only write rock songs and now I have included many other styles of music including, but not limited to R&B, Jazz, Funk, Folk, Pop and Hip-Hop.  As a composer and performer I am always open to new experiences and opportunities to diversify myself as an artist.  I want to write and play as many songs and different kinds of songs as I can that will inspire others and that will benefit music and humanity as a whole.  To further contribute to the nourishment of creativity, awareness, and healing that our world and people need.  The inspiration drawn from my experiences with music therapy, music writing, and music performance have inspired the many goals I aspire to achieve.  Amongst the many goals I have some that stick out for me that I hope to achieve in the future. From the music therapy inspiration, I hope to find a way to incorporate music and yoga together in a way to teach both of them to others.  I also aspire to travel the world and experience the many different kinds of music in other countries along with humanitarian work that always inspires my writing.  I also aspire to continue to be working hard to develop my craft by always performing, writing, and recording my music.
